Critical Reflection on Learning in the Course (Draft)

Image
The two objective that I have set at the start of this module are being able to step out of my comfort zone and improve my confidence which includes presentation skills. I have improvement on my confidence which includes presentation skills. Previously, I tend to stumble and add filler words into my presentation. Upon receiving criticism on them, I make sure to remind myself through many presentations that we have demonstrated in class. As what professor brad commented in class that “practice makes perfect”. Though I have achieved it, I should not be complacent. Because I will need to be confident in myself when I go for IWSP. Also, I should not be dishearten that I did not step out of my comfort zone. In my point of view, I was probably not very active in class. And I will need more time to work on it. We are able to work together and get the job done despite having different timetable. Through this course, I realise we collaborate a lot on our project. We find different ways to ...

Project Summary (Edited)

Introduction Engineering is a diverse sector with a range of specialized fields including electrical, computer science and mechanical.  As an undergraduate in the engineering field, exposure is important because there are more updated and newer machines implemented in the industry. With this, schools send students out for internship programmes to help students get used to what the industry is like. Apart from being exposed to updated and newer machines, they are also exposed to the culture of the company and why being a good communicator is important. Disagreements between colleagues leading to miscommunication and workplace abuse becomes more significant. “Interpersonal problems are likely to arise. In turn, hostility may fester.” (Nicholas, 2014) shows that miscommunication would result in a conflict. As well as, “In a 2012 online survey conducted by Jobscentral, 24 percent of Singaporean employees said they were victims of workplace bullying.” (Nicholas, 2014) and in a sc...

Resolving interpersonal conflict (Final with solution)

“A genuine effort to understand another person goes a long way in the path to communication."  I would like to talk about member A’s character. Member A is a sociable person, however he is irresponsible when it comes to work and does his work last minute. Whenever he is questioned by his peers on why work is not done, he would come up with excuses but in actual fact he is always playing computer games.  This encounter happened during a project meeting, between member A and the rest of the team. The deadline of the project was in one week’s time and everyone was rushing to submit the results on time. Apart from that, we had assignments from other modules to complete. The objective of that final meeting was to compile all our findings and put them together to present it. However, member A was not only late but could not present his work to the team. This added pressure to the team as everyone wanted to finalize the project fast and continue with their other tasks. The team ...

Blogpost #1: Strengths and Challengers in Communication (Revised)

Communication takes place in our daily life. To be an effective communicator, we must understand that we are all different in the way we perceive the world and use this understanding as a key to communicate with others. For this blog post, I will be describing my strength and challenges in communication, as well as two objectives that I hope to achieve by the end of this course. Firstly, my strength will be that I observe one’s non-verbal cues. During a conversation, I am aware of the speaker’s facial expression and whether they are displaying signs of boredom or excitement. Another non-verbal cue I would be aware of is their tone of speech, as the tone of the speaker can give away their level of interest in the current topic. Such example would be a conversation with my polytechnic friends where I was sharing about my university experience. However, I could tell the expression of this friend who has not entered university. The expression that he was showing no sign of interest i...

Additional Post: Communication without words

Non-verbal communication is the process of sending and receiving messages without the use of words either spoken or written. In this blog post, I will be reflecting on what I know about non-verbal communication and its role in interpersonal relationships. Firstly, I know that  non-verbal communication includes body movements, posture, eye contact, para-language, closeness (or personal space), facial expressions and physiological changes. An example on posture was the TED video that I watched before the start of class, which allowed me to understand how body languages help an introvert look confident. She spoke about how introverts hold up their arms in a V-shape and lift their chin up. Which makes one feel and seem powerful. Secondly, the role of non-verbal communication in an interpersonal relationship can either aid or hinder one's communication. Non-verbal communication would aid one's communication through body language. An example would be my experience to a forei...
